Which websites did we measure?

They are the websites of Slovak companies we contacted as part of our own sales outreach. It is neither a random nor a representative sample of the Slovak internet, and the results cannot be generalised to “all Slovak websites”. That is why we always speak of measured websites.

For each company we measured one address, the one the company gives as its website, which is usually the home page. Subpages were not measured.

What does the speed score mean?

It is the performance rating from Google PageSpeed Insights for the mobile version of the page, on a scale from 0 to 100. Google labels a score below 50 as poor.

Two things are worth knowing before you use that number:

  • It is a lab measurement. PageSpeed measures on a simulated slower mobile device. It is not real-user data (Core Web Vitals); real visitors may find the website faster.
  • Speed was not measured on every website. It was only measured on those that collected enough findings in the other checks. This part of the sample is therefore skewed towards weaker websites, and the speed chart shows it separately.

What goes into the SEO score?

These are technical basics on a single page, not positions in search results. A score of 100 means we found none of these shortcomings:

  • a missing title or a title longer than 60 characters,
  • a missing page description (meta description),
  • a number of main H1 headings other than one,
  • more than a quarter of images without a text description (alt),
  • a missing canonical link,
  • a missing sitemap (sitemap.xml) or a sitemap not listed in robots.txt,
  • an undefined page language,
  • a ban on indexing (noindex or a ban in robots.txt),
  • a limit on snippet or preview length in meta robots,
  • a missing image for sharing (og:image).

Each finding has a weight and takes points off the score accordingly. The score says nothing about the quality of the content, backlinks or the positions at which the website appears. A missing meta description or sitemap does not mean Google will not show the page. They are technical gaps that make its job harder.

How should the AEO figures be read?

In this measurement the AEO score rests on two checks:

  • whether the page marks up questions and answers with structured data of the FAQPage type,
  • whether it has at least one heading phrased as a question.

A score of 0 means the page has neither. A score of 100 means it has both. That is why the AEO chart has no smooth distribution, only four possible values.

It is a narrow technical measure, not a measure of AI visibility. It only tells you whether a page uses two signals that can help an AI search engine pick an answer. A page without them can still be perfectly usable for AI if it answers questions well. Nor does it tell you whether AI actually cites it. More on what AEO is in the article What is AEO and why SEO is not enough.

What is deliberately left out of the study?

  • The GEO score. We changed the checks in this area during the measurement, so older and newer results cannot be put side by side.
  • The overall score. Some websites have three areas measured and some four. An average over a different number of areas would mix two different numbers.
  • The share of websites blocking AI crawlers. We do not have it in the data.
  • Change over time. It is the state at a single date, not a comparison with the past.

How can you measure your own website?

Our mini audit gives you a review of your website in the same areas. The scores in this study are calculated by the same function as our public website audit.
