Your customers already see ads in ChatGPT. Just not yours.
OpenAI launched advertising in ChatGPT in the US in February 2026 and expanded it to 31 European markets on 24 August 2026. Campaigns are created directly in OpenAI Ads Manager and start at €15 a day. It is a new channel that is not yet crowded — which is the whole point of being early.
The ad appears below the ChatGPT answer, visually separated from it. The format is uniform and very tight: advertiser name, favicon, a headline of roughly 16 characters, a description of roughly 32 characters, an image and a landing URL. Only Free and Go users see ads. Plus, Pro and Enterprise subscribers do not.
- There are no keywords. You bid on context hints — phrases describing the kinds of conversations you want to appear in. The model matches ads against the conversation, your landing page and the ad copy itself. OpenAI calls it going beyond keywords. The work is not a keyword list, it is describing the decisions your offer answers.
- The creative is extremely short. Sixteen characters for a headline means the entire offer has to fit into one phrase. This is where most of the work goes.
- Personalised advertising is not available in the European Economic Area yet. Targeting relies on conversation topic, coarse location and device type. Fewer options, but also fewer GDPR headaches.
- Price comes out of a relevance-weighted auction, not a rate card. A better-matched ad wins more cheaply. If an analogy helps, it is loosely comparable to what Quality Score does in Google Ads — an analogy, not the same mechanism.
- Measurement is young. The pixel and Conversions API work, but platform reporting still has two buckets while targeting has three. Anyone expecting Google Ads precision will be disappointed.
- Open and configure your OpenAI Ads Manager account — billing, the campaign and ad group structure, access for you and for us, and the conversion goals. The account stays yours, as everything else does with us.
- Write creative built for the format. Sixteen and thirty-two characters is not a shortened search ad, it is a different craft.
- Set context hints around how your customers actually ask about the problem — not how your service is named in your price list.
- Pick the campaign type for the goal: CPM for reach, CPC for traffic, conversion-optimised campaigns once there is something to optimise.
- Wire up measurement: OpenAI Pixel, Conversions API, custom audiences and a connection to whatever you already track, so the channel can be compared.
- Judge whether it is worth continuing. With a new channel that matters as much as launching it.
Self-service Ads Manager is live across the 31 announced European markets, so campaigns are bought directly rather than through a reseller or a foreign entity. The minimum daily campaign budget for euro accounts is €15. Localised versions of the Help Center lag behind and may still show "Coming Soon" — the English original is the one that counts.
- Start. €490 per month. Account setup and verification, one campaign, creative, measurement and a monthly report. For companies who want to find out whether the channel is worth it.
- Growth. €890 per month. Several campaigns and ad groups, continuous testing of creative and context hints, conversion-led optimisation.
- Full service. From €1,490 per month. ChatGPT advertising together with Microsoft Copilot ads and AI visibility work, so language models recommend you where nobody pays for placement too.
- Media budget comes on top and goes to OpenAI, not to us. Entry is low: the minimum daily campaign budget for euro accounts is €15, so from €450 a month. Less than that and the channel cannot be judged properly; more than that and it scales.
- These prices are indicative and assume a monthly engagement. You get a firm number after a call, once we know the scope.
We track impressions, clicks, CTR, average CPC and above all conversions via the pixel and Conversions API. We compare the channel against the traffic sources you already have — ChatGPT Ads numbers on their own will not tell you whether to keep paying for it.
What people ask us.
Can you actually buy ChatGPT ads in my country today?
Across the 31 announced European markets, yes — self-service Ads Manager is live and billing works in euros, with a €15 minimum daily campaign budget. OpenAI publishes an availability list per country; if a localised Help Center page still says "Coming Soon", check the English original, which is kept current.
Who even sees these ads?
Only users on the Free and Go tiers. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu subscribers get ChatGPT without advertising. For B2B targeting at a technically literate audience that matters — some of your customers simply will not be there.
What does it cost?
Our work starts at €490 per month. Media budget goes directly to OpenAI on top. OpenAI publishes no per-impression or per-click price — ChatGPT Ads run on a relevance-weighted auction. Around the US launch CPM was reported at roughly $60, and by April 2026 campaigns were being reported from about $25; treat that as market history, not a rate card. For CPC campaigns OpenAI itself suggests a starting maximum bid of $3 to $5 per click — what you actually pay is decided in the auction. Entry minimums have fallen sharply: from $250,000 to $50,000, and then the channel opened to small advertisers. The euro minimum today is €15 per campaign per day.
How do you target without keywords?
Through context hints — phrases describing the conversation topics you want to appear in. Plus custom audiences, coarse geography and device type. Personalised advertising is not live in the European Economic Area, so targeting rests on the topic of the conversation, not on a profile of the person.
Is this the same as AI visibility?
No, but they belong together. AI visibility is about ChatGPT recommending you inside the answer itself, unpaid, based on what it finds about you. Advertising is the paid slot below the answer. Do both and you show up twice.
Is it worth it now, or should we wait?
The channel is a year old and advertisers do complain — measurement is incomplete and results are not miraculous. It is also uncrowded, and learning the format takes time. We suggest a small budget and three months to find out whether it works for you. Not moving your Google budget across.
What about Microsoft Copilot ads?
That is a separate route through Microsoft Advertising with no technical connection to ChatGPT Ads — OpenAI built its own infrastructure. Microsoft Advertising has been available far longer, so if ChatGPT Ads do not go through on your account, it is the closest alternative. We do both.
